Zoo

Today we went to the Prospect Park Zoo, it was a really nice day. The kids had a really good time looking at the animals (especially the monkeys that played with the kids through the glass), feeding the farm animals, and running around. F found out that he can jump as far a frog can. The girls really liked the porcupine that was on a tree right in front of them. They opened the discovery center and F got to play with some kids his age making fake camp fire with rocks and some tree branches and look through a microscope at various reptile sheddings, bees, and other insects. J played Vet. with a lab coat and some doctor toys :), A 'read' a book, got to do a matching game with animal's and the sounds they make, and look around at the interesting things they had in the center. They spent about an hour at the center. All together we spent about 3 hours at the zoo, we are planning top go to the Queens zoo again soon.
The kids enjoyed seeing their grandma as well. J got to spend time with her God mother which was nice for her too.
I had a great time talking to one of my home schooling mom friends tonight about the different styles of home schooling that are being used, it basically varies from family to family. I told her that at this point we are really leaning towards unschooling with some guidance from me as to what we will be covering that day. I am really seeing a change in F as far as retaining more info. and being more enthusiastic about what we are doing. I need to keep telling myself not to push him too much on what I think he should be doing on any given day but to make suggestions and then follow his lead, as long as I give him the guidelines as far as what is grade appropriate work he can choose what he would like to do/know more about.
