musing

I found out last night that one of our home schooling friends will be sending her kids back to school this yr. I am wondering why... F was a little upset because the boy was one of his friends that he played with at get togethers. I have to admit that I really don't understand why she is sending them back, they were doing so great home schooling (or so it seemed) unless there is a financial reason maybe.... I explained to F that it costs a lot more to home school him and his sisters than to send them to public school. But it is so much more costly to keep them in school as far as their emotional well being. It is like being in a jail, they have big gates all around the windows on the 1st floor of the school, and bars on the windows on some of the 2ND floor rooms.... you have to eat when they tell you, sit, stand, line up, do the work they tell you, there isn't much room for any personality and freedom of expression..

anyway...

Right now F is working on a Verb work sheet and then will do some math and possibly a read aloud and then off to do errands.
Last night J played her Reader Rabbit kindergarten CD ROM my mom got her last yr and she won the whole game. Her last thing she had to complete was an adding game that also taught you about recycling and keeping lakes clean. Afterwards I sat down with her and did some more adding with our fingers. She is starting to like to learn math so I take advantage of it and do a little with her every few days as she wants. We also go over the sounds each letter makes as she is willing to learn them. We do this anywhere and every where..in the tub, while we read story, while going to the store, you can do home schooling anywhere :).
