Back to writing....

Well I just realized that it's been 11 days since I wrote... my mom misses my blogs :). We have had a lot going on here... just going to write the good stuff down... no need to mention the colds we had last week....

Sunday was the annual Japan day kids' races at Central park. We drove to the city Saturday after the first dance class for the summer season to pick up the kids' racing shirts and numbers. F decided he wanted to race too so I signed him up.

Sunday morning we got up at 7 am and drove to the city again for the race, the kids love driving on the FDR and looking at all the cool things along the way. We met my mom there and got the kids to their designated spots, A wanted to run with the 5-6 yo girls so this time was a little less stressful, both girls were together instead of trying to be at 3 different places.. it was just 2.. F went with his father and hung out until it was the 7-9 yo's turn to run. The girls did a good job, J came in 3rd and my A was last but she tried and ran her best. F had a great time running and for once did not come in last so he was happy the whole day... he came in 3rd from last.

The day was beautiful and it was just so nice to be there in the park. We walked around for a little bit, got some Japanese tea and then decided to go to the Museum of the City of NY a few blocks away.. it is too far by train for me so since we were there already I decided what the hell let's go...

We saw exhibits about Henry Hudson and old New York or New Amsterdam, learned about the settlement by the Dutch and then by the English, saw period furniture from the 1700's until the early 1900's, the kids especially loved the toys exhibit, the old doll houses from the late 1800's complete with the furniture of that time period was a hit. The also loved all the old wooden and metal toys, noticed that they really didn't have any stuffed dolls or animals until the mid 1900's. We spent over 2 hours there, it was such a great day, everyone had a really good time. When we came home I took out the History of US book and looked it over with F, we read the 1st chapter and discussed it a bit, how this country is different from a lot of other countires as far as democracy and the opportunities we have here as opposed to some countries. Today F did math, and after laundry and riding around on their scooters, A on her trike, we all came upstairs and did a group histoiry lesson from the History of US book, I read chpater 2 and me and F took turns reading Chapt. 3 and then had a good discussion on the early hmans and how they got to the the US. We looked up on the big map where Beringia was 30,000 yrs ago. A and J drew pictures about what we read, J wrote a few words on her picture and F did some copy work from the book.
