Took the kids to the NYC police museum for a home school class yesterday. We met about 6 other hs families and had a really great class. The kids learned about the history of the police dept., all about what police officers do as neighborhood helpers, learned the importance of 911 and got to make simulated 911 calls, J loved that! She was so attentive, asked lots of questions and answered every question the presenter asked of the kids.. She is so easy to home school in that respect. She just loves everything and is so curious about all things and is a willing participant in every activity.
The kids especially loved the jail cell they all got to go inside of. They even got to have their mug shots taken (by the mommies) and look at all the guns, handcuffs, police equipment from the beginning of the dept. in the 1800's. F had 2 of his friends there and J met another girl about her age, but she lives in Westchester :(. A hung out with me the whole time of course.... she still listened to the whole presentation and the tour but just didn't want to actually participate.. she had all her little toys in her backpack that she took out and played with... she is easy that way. we were there for 2 1/2 hours and she only said once that she was bored :).
I asked F what was the best part of the trip and he said his friend A (that boy is to funny) he had all of the parents cracking up in the back of the room with his answers to the presenter's questions...
After it was over we walked over to the South Street Seaport to look up the name of a flag F bought a while back but forgot the name of. It was a really nice day, the sun was shining and it was just so beautiful...
Once we got home around 3 pm... it was a long day... F looked up the country and found it was in South Africa. So he spent time reading about that, he also did a page of math and vocabulary words.
J drew some more about her trip and wrote a few words about it as well.
