American Natural History Museum

I finally took the kids to the Natural History museum yesterday.. It was so much better than I expected, we were there for 4 hours and only managed to see 2 of the 4 floors. It was huge. We started at the top floor with the dinosaurs, it is such a big difference looking at pictures and diagrams and then seeing them in real life. The kids were so amazed at their size, the museum has the most dinosaurs with real fossils on display, not the cast made ones that most other places have. This fascinated F. They have the most complete dinosaur skeleton ever found, complete with skin on the sides of it. There were so many fossils of the ancestors to modern day mammals, mammoths, a saber tooth tiger, giant ground sloth etc... After lunch in the cafeteria with way over priced food, we explored the 1st floor hall of Bio diversity and saw the History of humans, J loved the video of how they made the cave men look the way they do, with the clay and hair. She loves anything to do with art :). We saw a huge tree trunk piece that was about 1300 years old, it was cut down in the 1890's in CA. It was about as big as Amelia's room. It was so educational and fun, I took a lot of pictures of course.

Lego class is going well, F and his friend W are having a real good time building their robotic car and trying to program it. I am looking forward to seeing it move and go on missions. After Lego class on Thursday we walked around the lower east side for a little bit, took the train home and went to the library for the RIF so the kids could each get their free books.

The weather has been so crappy this past week we didn't do as much as we wanted to but we did get some homeschooling done every day, reading and math has been a daily thing. A is starting to learn how to put her letter sounds together and make words. She is really loving that she can read now :). I waited until she was ready and now she is and so it's coming along faster.
