July 1st (Canda Day)

I tried to email my letter of intention as well as my IHIP to the home school coordinator, but I guess her email box is full because it came back to me. Everyone had a June 30Th deadline to send in their annual assessments and 4Th quarterlies, so I think she is overwhelmed.
I will try for another week and then if nothing I will send it thru regular mail. I made copies and I am done until September.
We studied Canada on Sunday since it was Canada Day. F read a reading comprehension and we looked at various web sites, colored the flag and the provinces and territories of Canada. He took a 22 question quiz on various Canadian facts and got about half right. I found a page with the capitals of each province/territory and he has been studying them. The map that we got a while ago is so helpful with the visual part of his learning. He always wants to check it to make sure he knows where each country is located.
F decided that he wanted Egyptian food today, so I looked up recipes online and went shopping. We have been studying Egypt on and off since October so it fit well.
We made (all the kids helped) chicken with chickpeas, and it came out really good. F ate a lot of it, I will make another dish sometime this week.
I figure we can do a different country every few weeks to once a month.
He likes all types of food so far, and I love exposing my kids to a wide variety of foods. He wants Canadian food next....

J and A painted a little yesterday with water colors and F did a lot of English work. We sat down and did word blends. I wrote a few blends (bl, pl..) and tried to think of words beginning with the blend. He keeps going back to the book as he thinks of different words. He has also been glued to his chess game on the computer. The Chess instructor at the library gave him a CD to help him practice his chess game. It's a cartoon game with a lot of different strategies for him to play, he really gets into it and time flies.....he also plays a lot more with his father.
I had to put a time limit for him to play (he's hogging the computer) but I like that he is playing chess.
We are going to the library tomorrow to get some more books on Egyptian food and life styles. maybe we will check out something on Canada as well.
