We had the back to no school picnic at prospect park today, it was really nice. We got there at 11:45 and left at 4:30. At least 15 families showed up with about 30 children. The ages varied from 7 mos to 13 yrs old. F made some new friends and got to see his some of his old friends as well. He has really gotten close to this one boy C, who is 5 but so much more mature than that. They go off together and talk a lot. It's really nice to see them getting along so well especially since me and his mom really hit it off as well. J hung with a few 4 yo olds as well as some older kids at times, they had a nice time getting dirty, playing jump rope, digging in the dirt for dinosaur bones, playing baseball etc... There was a post on one of the hs sites about 'socialization' and the home schooled child, basically the idea that home schooled children do not get the proper socialization because they are not in school. It makes me laugh :).....umm I don't think this applies to my kids lol
Even A made a friend today, my little girl who doesn't talk to any other children besides her sister and brother made a friend. She met a little girl, S and started talking to her and they went off under a tree and became friends :)
I met some new moms as well, re-connected with old ones and made plans for future get togethers. So far our year is starting off well, with clubs, get togethers, new friends and even some 'schooling' going on at home :) F did a few pages in his math workbook, about coin money and some writing. I had him write out various numbers so he is more familiar with them.
J is writing on her letter board that my mother bought for her, she likes to write her letters over and over again.
I started reading the Odyssey to F a few days ago, we started with Book 1 The One Eyed Giant. It is a really great book that has been adapted for children by Mary Pope Osborne. We will go to the library soon and check out books abt. ancient Greece so we can learn more abt. their fascinating history.
