no time :)

Well I have like 2 minutes to do smt so I'm going to attempt to write down the things we have been doing the past weeks....

Last Friday me and F went to the MET in NYC with a few other hs ing families...we had a great time, F was interested in seeing the Greek statues because of our reading the Odyssey, and the kids decided they also wanted to see the African sculptures and items. The Egyptian wing is always a hit with my son.....There were a few kids F's age there as well as his friend C.
Afterwards we went to eat lunch and came home just in time to leave for J's dance class.
F has been doing his report on India and their transportation system. We learned some interesting things...there are hardly no working stoplights lights there, ...we also watched a short video on driving in India. wow! He wrote about a page and a half which is good for him.

The song writing class went fine on Tuesday, the teacher helped F put notes for his song that he will be doing for the last class next week. then we had some play time with the other kids, J drew some pictures and wrote her first and middle name on the paper, she needed help with her middle name but she loves to write letters so it's easy for her. We have also been working on doing more math and F likes to look at food labels and see how many calories every thing has..we are very health conscious here and it starts with teaching the kids how to eat healthy and take good care of their bodies... so he wanted to see how many calories were in a bag of marshmallows, per serving..which led to some multiplication and addition, I threw in some portion sizes in there...what is half of 6 oz, what is double etc ..... F and his father also took a survey on line about exercise and calories....he told me it takes 150 minutes of exercise to burn off the calories from a 12 inch pepperoni pizza..(we don't eat meat here)
He also practiced fractions on line with a math game as well as doing a few work pages on fractions. he seems to be understanding it more this year than last yr..which is the whole point ....
He spent some time on that stuff and then went onto doing more geography :) he loves that...he is teaching himself the capitals of each country since he knows all 50 state capitals now. The 600 piece puzzle of the world we did is still on the floor of his room being used every day..he takes the countries apart and puts them back together.
We also did a few pages on pronouns and do some sentences here and there using them instead of the nouns for practice. We are also working on spelling daily, and will be starting more with copy work.
J is learning the sounds each letter makes and is very interested in words and what everything starts with. She sat in the big red chair today and watched PBS where the lady stands there and teaches ppl how to write, and what each words starts with...you know...leg starts with L...say the letter L...that sort of stuff and she followed right along... I didn't make her sit there she just decided it was interesting and watched it......
A wants me to read every book she has :) she learned a new letter 'O' from her snuggle puppy book I bought last week.....

We love books in this house :) I'm so glad that the kids are following our example and love to be read to and to try to read....
