I saw this quote and I love it! It's my basic philosophy about how children learn at their best.
Learning can only happen when a child is interested. If he's not
interested it's like throwing marshmallows at his head and calling it
eating." - Barbara Lamping
Haha.....
Well we had A's b day party yesterday and we had some family and some friends over with their kids..... it was really nice and she got so much more stuff.....puzzles, books, a doll, a drum with various music instruments inside, a book that shows you how to draw different animals using your hands...
that one got tried out as soon as every one left..the girls made peacocks...
The kids got to play with cousins and F had his friend M over who is my bff's son.....it was good but once a year is enough for me :)
This morning I cleaned the whole house, the kids did some more of the drawing they did last night, they made snails, a giraffe, a sea monster, turkeys, etc... J is very good at drawing and copying things so they look like the original drawing, she named the pieces she drew and wrote the names on the paper, she learns each letter better this way because she wants to write them down, she is not made to do anything she doesn't want to do. her hand writing is actually very good for a 4 yo.... A is also past the only drawing squiggly lines age.. she can make shapes and tries to write letters, what surprised me a little is that she can color inside the lines perfectly.....
F spent the morning looking up all the countries in the world that have a population with 100% literacy rate and writing them all down on a piece of paper. Sadly the USA did not make it on the list....
We then talked a little about percentages...
Now they are relaxing and watching some TV......
