I took the kids to the eye Dr. Thursday, their first visit. It went well, J needs glasses to help her eyes focus, one eye is perfect but the other one is not so much, and it strains both eyes when she watches TV or really needs to focus, so she picked out small glasses to fit her 5 yo face :). F's eyes are perfect... J was actually excited to get glasses because she will be like me :). How cute is that?
Afterwards we went out for pizza and then we decided to go to Barnes and Noble and get a few books that F has been wanting for a few weeks. We took the train and walked about 6 blocks thru Park slope, it was such a nice day and the area is very pretty and quiet. We actually ended up staying and looking thru books for over an hour and bought 5/6 books and a magnetic puzzle for $60 with my home schooler's discount. F got the new Time for Kid's almanac 2009, and some books on rocks and geology which is his new found interest.
On the way back to the train station we saw a lot of carved pumpkins and Halloween decorations that the kids loved, and we saw a really interesting tree with white mushrooms growing all the way from top to bottom. It was really nice to just decide to go somewhere and go... we didn't rush and just enjoyed the day.
Friday we went to Staples so I could finally buy a three hole puncher and put all of the kids' work pages that I printed from Ed helper into their binders. I am making a new work book for A who loves to do work daily, she is learning how to count and write her letters. She had a Pre-K workbook on Math and she finished it already. She started in August and did a few pages whenever it was work book time. Within a week she learned to identify the numbers 1 to 6, spell her name and write a few more letters.
F has been working on geometry, how to find area and parameter of various polygons, add/subtract numbers in the thousands, and probability.
He actually likes to do math now. I have given him some 4Th grade math as well and he has been doing OK with it. We also have done some spelling and reading this week.
Today we went to dance, the girls are learning some dances form the Nutcracker, they were sugar plum fairies today :). The recital is in December and we are all looking forward to it. We then drove to Home depot and helped the kids make a leaf press for their leaf and flowers they like to collect. Did some food shopping, and were home by 1:30 pm.... I like the new dance class schedule, we went from 12:15 to 1:00 pm to starting at 10:30 am and having the time to do most of our errands and stuff and be home by 1 pm...
oh BTW J asked me last night "how do boys wipe themselves?".. that was an interesting conversation.... she is very curious...
