We went to a home schooling trip to the Native American museum last Wednesday in the city. It was so cold and windy but we had a good time, the kids saw exhibits from various Native American tribes, art work, and clothing worn by typical women. J was really into everything and wanted to take her sketch pad so she could draw things. So drew about 5 different pages of art, sculpture and artifacts. F had his friend C there and they spent time talking and playing at the hands on part of the museum. They had a room for children with some hands on activities such as Native Am. puzzles which the boys loved, they and a few other kids asked one of the moms to time them while they tried to do the puzzle as fast as they could. F and C won in 1:55sec. The kids also learned how the dresses are actually made, as far as the deer that gets hunted, then how they make the deer skin which is hard into a soft dress, it involved smearing brain paste onto it and leaving it over night.... they saw a video as well as a step by step exhibit. It was kinda cool and gross at the same time. :)
Afterwards me and the kids took a walk in the city and finished our x mas shopping, we bought more decorations and some presents. The city is beautiful with all the lights and Christmas trees lit up and decorated. It was really nice.
We got home by 3:45 pm and started decorating the house.
F did some math, various things, and we are still reading a few stories daily, and nightly. J really wants to learn how to read so we are working on that. He and J decided they wanted to make up their own language so after food shopping on Thursday he came home. sat down with a piece of paper and wrote out all the words he wanted to have as well as the new words for his language. They did rhyming words but their words were not real words, like Car=dar and sun=vun. J was great at thinking up new rhyming words, a lot of which were not used because they were actual words. But I was so glad to hear her doing that. She can hear a word and instantly know what it rhymes with. F wrote words for a few hours, I think he is up to 75? He has all sorts of words from 3 letter ones to more complicated ones. It's great that he wants to experiment with the English language.
Last night was another make up dance class and then some quick food shopping at Trader Joe's and then home to dinner and baths... they girls are getting ready for their recital next week. They are so excited, they got the rest of their costumes yesterday.
