Games and resolutions

I took the kids to the city today for a game day get together in the west village. The trip was not to bad, it was just cold.. We met up with about 30 home schoolers, some we knew and others we didn't. The kids met with some friends and played pool, table tennis, and other games. A mostly played with her stuffed animals and drew pictures, she did end up playing with another girl for a few minutes too which was nice. J met an 8 yo girl whom she played table tennis and other games with as well. She also played with some friends she hasn't seen in a few months.
J even got to play on the piano and try out the drum set they keep there for bands to use during regular hours. We planned to stay for only an hour or so, which turned into over 2 hours. I met a new home schooling mom who lives not too far from us, she has an 8 yo boy, so hopefully this can be a play mate for F on occasion.
I sat and talked with other mommies and just socialized.
We plan on going again but not sure when.

On the way home we stopped at the bakery and then got a ride home from DH. That was nice and unexpected...
I made a good dinner of roasted vegetable and Quinoa while the kids played games on the computer. Before bed time me and J read 1 more chapter in her Magic tree house book, her reading is improving daily.

Yesterday we did errands which gave us a chance to practice math skills. F is also learning about weights with KG and G among other math concepts, I'm glad we have a scale as well as access to all the Internet help we find, it is so much easier to look up an answer to a question online.

Our new food for this week is a grapefruit, which we have never tried on its own. F didn't like it too much and J only sucked the juice and didn't eat the pulp. But I think it wasn't completely ripe and will try again in a few months when they are more in season. I like that at least 2 of the kids are willing to try anything once. A does as well once in a while. We have also decided to give up eating meat all together. Including chicken, we already don't eat any red meat or any pork at all. The kids never have and me and DH haven't in years. I still have a few frozen breasts of chicken in the freezer that we will slowly finish, but after that I am going to try and not buy any more and just make fish and other various vegetables for dinner every night. The kids really like this idea. That's not to say that we won't occasionally have a turkey sandwich or a dish with chicken in it but it will not be often.

Since it is a new year and it's time to start fresh I need to let go of old relationships that are just too much work to keep going. I have a few friend that are old fiends whom I have grown apart from. I am realizing that if it's adding stress to my life and making me upset I need to let it go. I am sad to see it end but I know that I have tried to keep it going, and unless they put the same effort into keeping in touch I will no longer be the one to email, call, write first and wait and stress. I am realizing as well that some people have their lives so full of other stuff that there is no room for me and my kids in it anymore.

This year I resolve to have less stress in my life and this is one step.

I have some great friends that I value which I will work on building as well as making some new friends along the way. My family is my greatest joy and if I am stressed needlessly then I am not the best mom, wife or daughter I can be.

Now to work on seeing my mother more often :).
