"Learn to get in touch with the silence within yourself, and know
that everything in life has purpose. There are no mistakes, no
coincidences, all events are blessings given to us to learn from. "
~ Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
I love this quote, so many times I have let the loud voices of other people intrude on my inner voice. Especially with 3 kids who are all so very different, and learn different things at different times in their lives. Sometimes I get caught up in the whole 'what if they are not as smart as those other homeschoolers? What if they don't know this or that? What if I am not teaching it the right way, what if what if... so many times...
Then I have to bring myself back to my reality and know that my children will learn, they will grow up to be happy and healthy people. They DO learn at their own pace and it makes no sense to compare them to any one else. I have to remind myself at times that there have been numerous times in our 4 1/2 years of homeschooling when I have doubted myself or 1 of their abilities to actually get a concept. Just to leave it alone for a while and then come back to it, sometimes even a year later, to a child who is more than willing to now do what ever it is that needs to be done/ learned and is excited about it. I know my children retain information so much better when they are ready for it intellectually. But still I doubt at times and it's because I let the voices of doubt in, instead of trusting my instinct and my children's instincts and their own natural way of learning what needs to be learned.
Every good parent has doubts about their parenting, and we all worry about how well our children will turn out and how well they will face the world once they are grown enough to be out on their own. I do believe that every thing happens for a reason and we are meant to learn from it.
That is easier said than done, but the only way TO learn from it is to hear the silence within yourself and believe..
