fresh food, cooking, science and summer

While the girls were having a blast at their weekly dance class, Dh and I were at a stoop 'sale' where the sellers got tired of selling and just put a sign out saying "take me, I'm free"  very cool! So we scored a few really cool things, including a vegetarian cook book. Because you can't have too many cook books :).
This worked out great since  a new farmer's market opened up right in front of the neighborhood library, 5 blocks from our apt., so after we did our composting, we walked over and bought some fresh veggies and fruits for all of $11.50.  This market is run by teenagers who have completed a few months of work shops for cooking healthy and running a farm stand. The key to being healthy is eating healthy. On the menu for today will be Autumn gold carrot-yam soup...

The last few weeks have been filled with some great play dates, hanging out with friends, tennis classes at the park, reading, and lot of board games. We finally dissected the cow eye I bought a few months ago! That was a cool, educational and slightly yucky, science lesson.  The kids all learned about the inner mechanisms and parts of the eye. Cow eyes are similar to human eyes so this was really interesting. We found out why cats, cows and other animals whose eyes' glow in the dark do so.

The kids have been in the small pool in the backyard almost every day since it's summer, and the temps. have been in the upper 80's and mid 90's!
