Saturday my dh's nephew and his 3 kids came over, the kids had a nice time playing with their older cousins, he read A about 12 books lol. We did a few errands after they left and went out for Chinese food which we haven't done for months....
Sunday was Mother's day so went to the annual Mother's Day Race to Erase domestic violence races in Central park. the kids ran in the kids races, J especially loves it... this year A ran too she was so cute with her number pinned to her jacket....
afterwards they all got ribbons and we stayed at the band shell for some music and dancing. We got J on videotape dancing to the music the DJ was playing, he did stuff like freeze dance and she listened really well, she shook her butt, and danced all around with the other kids...
After it was over we went to play in the park, the kids climbed rocks (big ones) and ran around for a few hours. It was nice, we went to lunch after at a Pizza place in Manhattan then went home for a nap (for DH and me)we took turns. Then he cooked all of us a very nice dinner.. so I had a pretty good mothers' day :)
Today we are going to a home school get together at Prospect park for a show and tell day. F drew a picture and wrote a little about Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius which he will present to the group. After we will go to the playground and play for a little.
I love home schooling :)
I was reading an article this morning on AOL about a bunch of teachers that staged a mock gunman attack on their 6Th grade class of 40 students. Sounds like a lesson in preparedness until you find out that the kids thought it was a real attack!! They all were in a dark classroom with the door locked hiding under the desks and on the floor crying and praying not to die...What the @*!@!!!! What is wrong with teachers today?? Do they not realize how much they probably traumatized this group of kids?? THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY I HOME SCHOOL!!!!!
I ran into a lady from my son's old school and she asked my about J, if I will be sending her to pre-k in Sept., I told her I wasn't sure yet. She said "oh you have to so she can learn and be with other kids" I told her she learns at home and that she has friends. She kept insisting that J belongs in Pre-k and that she really should go to learn..... I kept thinking that why do I need to send her away for a few hours a day so she can learn... Am I not her mother?? Do I not know how to teach my own child? We are left alone with a newborn as soon as the 2 days stay in the hospital are over after birth, but once they reach the age of 4 or 5 we have to send them off to people who supposedly know more than us and care about them as much as we do?? It doesn't make any sense to me...
Once she found out that we are home schooling she was horrified it seemed..."Oh my God! WHY? " I really wanted to laugh..but I just said that I really wanted to do it and that it's better for us and that F likes it and he is more in charge of what he learns. LOL, I am beginning to find this kind of response so typical... I understand that a lot of people have no idea what home schooling is all about.
It's just sad that we are led to believe that a teacher always knows what's best for our child. Like they are some kind of higher power.... that's not to say that there aren't any really good, caring teachers out there because they are (Ms. Matson from NC is one!!)
I think I'll just stick to home schooling :))
