Chess

We went to the library for the hour long chess club, which was really nice. F got to play with a few kids and the teacher was good as well, he taught him a few moves... F really enjoys playing chess and checkers, he played with his father a few days ago and seems to be picking it up pretty well. The girls and I read a few books (10 or 12) lol and I borrowed a few books on Ancient Rome which seems to be the topic of the last few weeks....
I found a good book on the Amish people, which we will be studying as well since we will be taking our vacation in Lancaster county PA. (Amish country)
J played on the computer in the library, they have a toddler computer set up with Sesame street games, so she did her numbers from 1 to 10 a few times and she 'drew' on the site as well.... she is getting a handle on using the mouse correctly.

We have also been reading about Ellis Island and immigration. F has been playing more math games on line, as well as doing more pages in his work books. We did a short spelling test today on numbers, we haven't done a spelling test in a while.

Wednesday we did food shopping (math lesson) weighing produce.... I finally got around to buying b-day cards for the people whose b-days are this week or coming up soon. F read about 15 cards all on his own. He just picked up one card after another and started to read them. It was so cool :) he is really developing his reading.
J and A are continuing to learn their ABC's, they all love being read to, as well as playing with puzzles. Me and F played the Professor Noggins Revolutionary war card game again and we are still tying 15 to 15. He really likes these games....

I finished his 4Th quarterly and his annual assessment. They are not due until June 30Th but why put it off? I am hoping that the HS coordinator doesn't do a last minute change and require a certified teacher to do the assessment. She has not made a city wide announcement so I think we are safe... the year is almost over. all this hassle for what? It makes no sense.... if we decide to move to NJ any time before the kids turn 16 we never have to report to the state of NJ again. Just one state over and we can do as we please as far as our kids' education. So basically it's OK for kids from NJ to be stupid but not the kids from NY. It makes no sense to me....
But we live in NY so we follow the rules....
