Fruit ices

We have been making fruit ices for a few days now, my husband brought strawberries, and other fruits from work and the kids have been making them with him and freezing them into ice pops. They are sooo good! It's hot.... too hot to do much of anything today...we went to the post office to mail a package to my step-daughter and then came home and watched a movie, F played on the comp. for a few hours.....
I did a weather related activity with the girls, they helped me make a few cards with different types of weather on it and then we wrote the names on one side of the index cards. I am teaching them about the seasons and the types of weather they each have. Yesterday we went to Prospect Park for a Shakespeare play in the park. it was so interesting, it was adapted to children so it had puppets as well as the actors. They played a small part of Shakespeare's Mid-summer night dream, the kids loved it although it was a little hard to understand at times, I explained the basic idea to F. They had a craft set up for afterwards and the girls made puppets of their own, then ran around the playground for a little while. Then we walked to the Audubon center and played with all sorts of puppets and the girls made a dragonfly with paper and sticks. I found a great science book at the center that I will try and borrow from the library. We were out for at least 4 hours, it was great, and so easy to get to. J said she loves the bus, lol.
Me and F played our math card game and read Why the Ice caps are melting, which is a book about global warming. We watched the Live earth concert on Sunday, which was great. He has been really into the environment and how to help live a little more green. We are no longer using plastic bags and any time I go to get one to put fruit/veggies into one at the store he says...isn't that a plastic bag? That's not good mom.:) He's right :)
We met other home schoolers at the Metropolitan Art Museum on Friday, we had a nice time, my mom stayed with A and we took the other 2 kids. The kids had a list of things to look for in the museum, and he found most of them. We saw paintings by Van gogh, F noticed paintings that we have seen on the Van gogh web site. All the kids liked the armor section as well as the Egyptian wing. J was so into the mummies. Afterwards we all went to the Egyptian playground a few blocks away, J played in the sand, climbed on a pyramid, and had a great time, F played with his friends and I talked with the moms. DH sat and read the paper :) We left a little early and went to the pet store so J could look at her favorite things... animals. Now she is making 'art' for the refridgerator, 'just like in the museum mommy.' I love it!
