Snail

We have a new pet, we found a snail a few days ago while walking to the post office. So we brought it home and set up a small habitat for him. the kids and I read the book about snails that we have here and collected the necessary things for the habitat. They love looking inside and trying to figure out where the snail is. I figure it's a good learning opportunity for them, and I love snails, they are so cute :)
We are starting to be a little bit more into 'school mode' this week. J has been doing some work pages on her numbers and letters, coloring, and reading daily. The girls have also been building with their blocks, making all sorts of things, animals, robots etc, cooking with their kitchen, ...I like their creativity.
F has been reading more and doing his writing a little more as well.
The banana peel we put into the soil in May completely decomposed (F made a note on it) and we are staring with an apple core to see how long it will take to decompose as well. He has been asking more and more questions about how things work, why things are .......
We are also watching a 3 part series on the Revolutionary War and will be starting with the Civil War soon.
F and his father have been watching a lot of documentary TV, on the environment, the ice age, weather and stuff like that.
I also made a food color chart with 6 different colors (red, purple, green, yellow, orange and blue) in their own slots on the paper which the kids get to color when they eat a certain color of food. (Green for apple, grapes..) They really like it and it gets them more interested in eating all their food colors. We eat healthy here anyway but this makes it more fun.
I have made more space for the upcoming year, printed pages of work pages from the sites I belong to and reviewed all of their workbooks to make sure they are what we need...I am getting excited about all of the things we have planned for the 2ND grade as well as for J's pre-k education.
