The kids are already asking about Halloween, J wants to bake bat, witch, ghost cookies, F wants to start decorating the house....we will do all of that during the month but we do not do the trick or treating part. I do not like the idea of them eating a lot of candy/chocolate that they got from strangers...
We have fun anyway :)
We have been hanging out here, reading a lot, doing math, drawing, gluing, playing computer games.....Chess starts again on Thursday. F is really excited. We already finished the 1st book of the Odyssey, F loves it and told his father all about his favorite part, the Cyclops. I like how the books are really written for children. The chapters are short and highlight the most important parts of the long poem that is the Odyssey.
J loves to draw anything, she has been focusing a lot on drawing her family.
My friend sends her son to pre-K and tells me the things that they do there with him. I told her wow, we do the same things here with J for Pre-k. We have the same things here, all she needs is someone to show her what to do, she has the desire to learn and do all things that are fun. You don't need to send them to a school for them to learn things that come naturally for most of them. All they need is someone that is involved, reads to them and have some of the materials that they need to be creative. I understand that if you are a working mom you probably really don't have a choice but to send them to a pre school, hopefully a really good one. I used to teach at various Pre schools and I loved it, and there really are some good teachers out there who will take care of your child and teach them some of the things they need to know. But I noticed that they kids who do better are the ones who have involved parents who teach them at home as well.
Hopefully the girls will get a love for reading books like I have. When I read a book to them J always wants to 'read' the pages as well. She looks at the pictures and makes up a story to go with it. This is the start of her reading by herself once she gets the hang of it.
