We have started decorating the house for Christmas, our favorite holiday :)
The kids love to help, and can't wait until we get our tree..we always get a live on about 1 week before X mas. We will start reading stories and various books related to the holidays coming up, Hanukkah is coming up as well. I got a library book on various celebrations through out the world broken down by months. I also copied a book about Christmas around the world last year.
F has surprised me a little this week, he took it upon himself to sit down with a notebook and write the names of the various volcanoes in each country in the world that has volcanoes. He filled almost 2 pages. :) We read his big book on volcanoes last night as well. He is very interested in them and has been for a while now. He uses a site on line to get his info as well as play some games, he found a crossword puzzle of volcanic terms and had a blast filling it out online. He is learning a lot of vocabulary words this way. He also completed a few math pages of double digit subtraction. I noticed that F really likes to teach the girls new things as well, they like to copy him and I found him trying to teach J how to spell his name. She wrote her name, his name and her sisters name on a sheet of paper and was very proud of it. She has also found the flash cards that my mom bought a while ago, they are addition cards up to 10 and she wants me to 'play' with her, she knows all her numbers now by sight (up to 10) and I guess if she's up for it she might as well learn some addition facts :). Glad she thinks of math as a game.....
F went on the National geographic game site today and played a game about the Lewis and Clark expedition west. I really like that site, it opens them up for more exploration of various interesting subjects. He asked me to buy some books about the expedition so we can learn more about it. So I got 2 books for $11.00 including shipping...
I noticed that he has a nice interest in taking pictures, he has always liked to take them, so we decided to update out digital camera for x mas and give him our old one...he is so excited it's nice to see...I can't wait to see what he takes pictures of. I bought a book about Brooklyn and NYC at earlier times...from the late 1800's to the 1970's, we have plans to take him to some of the same spots and take pics of the same things as in the book with his camera.
Then I will eventually put them on a Cd picture album.....
