back to school?

I get asked from time to time for how long do I plan to home school the kids?
I usually answer at least till high school..... some ppl say oh that's good, other ppl say omg really? If you ask F he says until college...... :) he doesn't want to ever go back to school, and the more I hear about kids in school and about some of the things they learn (or don't learn), the way some teachers deal with the kids.... and then I see how my son is learning so much, mostly on his own terms and having fun learning new things and I really can't picture us sending any of the kids off to school to be told what to do by some 'expert' and have to deal with the whole scene.
J says the same that she's home schooled and is learning her letters, painting. drawing, etc...she explains herself a lot better than F did at this age :)

We rearranged the whole house on Thursday and Friday, we moved the kids' room into the living room and vice versa, a lot of moving furniture and mountains of toys..... but it's so much better now, the kids have more room to play and once everything is organized it should be easier to keep things clean and organized daily. The kids helped clean and move things as well. F used the tape measure to measure things and learned a little about how to convert inches to feet.

We also did some schooling on Thursday morning, F decided he wanted to do a spelling test (we have not had one of those in months) he got 20 out of 21 right...yay! he's improving...he also did some math word problems, learning more about how to get the perimeter of an object, I found a nice web site to hep with that too.
As always he did some more with volcanoes and countries, capitals, monetary units of various countries etc..... he really gets into that stuff..... he also sat in the big red chair and read his favorite book, The chronicles of a young urban failure..it's so funny, I love it too! I told him I really don;t care what he reads as long as he reads to himself and that is pretty much the only things he is wiling to sit down and read silently to himself......

Then yesterday we went to the library for the RIF program and A got a free book for her b day from them, which we read as soon as we got home.

Today was the Home depot workshop and the kids built a wooden castle bank, there they learn how to use tools safely and get some more self confidence in learning how to build things with some assistance from us . J is getting much better at hammering a nail and F is just better at doing the whole project by himself with some monitoring by his father. They all love going there...too bad it's only 1x a month.
