home depot

F has been working on his math skills for the past few days. We had a conversation about the test he will have to take in the 5Th grade and he decided that he wanted to try to do some of the math that might be on the test. I wrote some examples in his math notebook...4 digit addition and subtraction and he got to work. He got them all right. He was so excited to see that he could do it.... I told him that this test in the 5Th grade will have things on it that we will cover during the next few years and that it was nothing that he has to worry about.... I hope that he doesn't take it too seriously, tests are not the only way to measure what someone knows.... he knows things that are beyond his 2ND grade level already...

We are almost done with the Magic tree house book, he really likes them and wants to read them every day. After food shopping Friday we went to visit my SIL and her grandson (F's cousin). We haven't seen them since November, the kids had a great time playing with I. Me and my DH had a nice time talking with my SIL and my niece and seeing her new baby daughter V. She is 5 mos old :) and J loved her, she loves babies in general and is thrilled to find out that she has a few baby girl cousins now.

Today we went to the Home depot kid's workshop and the kids built a wooden flower pencil holder. J was so happy to hammer and glue all by herself with my help, A helped her daddy put it together and F pretty much worked by himself. It came out very cute. I love it, free wooden toys and things plus the kids get to learn tool safety. Ordered Chinese food with shrimp (F's favorite, and now J's as well), came home and sat on J's bed and looked at F's human body book, J had an explanation for every section of the book...'the brain has things in it and it's in your head and it's on the top and you have muscles all over your body and the teeth are hard and made on bones...and ..... and....' it was so cute she was so into it. There have been some volcanic eruptions over the last few months all over the world so me and F sat at the computer tonight and read about some of them on the Volcano world site as well as on the Internet. He likes to know new things about Volcanoes and ran and got his states book since one of the eruptions were in Hawaii.... we have been having more impromptu discussions on various things lately... we sat down and saw a historical show about the war of 1812 a few days ago and that led to something else etc. etc...

J did a few work pages on her lower case letters and F did 1 page of division. I read about 5 books to them tonight :) and now I am tired lol.
