South street Seaport

Wednesday we walked to the park, played for a little while and then went to the library. The kids borrowed their favorite books... Olivia and Knuffle Bunny by Mo Willems. Went shopping for fruits and veggies at the farmers market and then headed home to sit and read :) All 5 books were read within 20 minutes of getting home.

Yesterday we went to the hair dresser and J got a hair cut... I was going to as well but decided not to.
Went for Pizza and food shopping afterwards... it was a nice way to spend the day I have been feeling very pent up after a while of staying home all winter long....

Today me and F took the train into the city and met my mom at the ferry and walked to the south street seaport. It was such a nice day, had Japanese food for lunch.. F had his usual California roll and shrimp :), longed on the deck chairs and watch boats go by.. so peaceful. Then we walked over to the SS seaport Museum.
They had an exhibit on whaling which went great with our reading of Moby Dick... F saw a short film on whaling and decided he did not like that at all.. they killed whales! We read about how/ when it started and what they made out of whale oil.. soaps, cosmetics etc... and saw some cool harpoons. We also saw a lot of ships and artifacts from ships.. F loved the model ships with small ppl inside... There was also a photograph display of the men who worked at the Fulton ST fish market for years until it closed down. It was very eye opening for me and my mom.

Then we had ice cream. played in the playground and the F decided he wanted to walk across the Brooklyn bridge. It is the 125Th anniversary of the bridge. There were hundreds of ppl walking across the bridge but we had a really nice time. We saw photographs of how the bridge was built and learned some interesting facts about it as well, it is 1,579 feet long... F was nervous every time bike sped past because we were on a wooden walkway but he got over it once we were halfway across and looked over to the sides and saw water and the NYC skyline.. it was so beautiful..

I am reminded again of how fortunate we are to be home schooling and to make our own decisions on what to do each day and to see my son's eyes light up and have him come alive at every trip and new experience is so great it is not measurable in words...
