Sunday at the Zoo

For J's b day we went to the Central park zoo this past Sunday. We met my mom there in the morning. It was a warm day and I had forgotten how packed things can get on the weekends. But we still had a really good time, the girls loved the rain forest place where they saw birds, tortoises, lemurs and giant ants in their tunnels, bats and looked for the sloth but we never found it....
The polar bear was my favorite, it was in the water up against the big glass just hanging out as people crowded in front of it. The kids also loved the penguins and the puffins. Then it was off to the Children's zoo to pet some animals and play on the giant spider web.

Afterwards we walked farther into the park and ate ice cream and climbed the huge rocks, which look like small mountains. F found some granite rocks that he tried to make into spear heads by chipping away at the tip with another rock. Knowing some of the history of NY and of Central park helped us appreciate what we were experiencing. F pretended he was back in Native American times climbing the rocks.... :).

I finally found some post cards so we can send them out to our post card friends in Oregon. One of the hs ing moms arranged for home schoolers all over the states to mail each other post cards. Each of my kids got a name and we will be mailing ours out soon.
