play dates

J's bff came over on Monday since there was no school for MLK day. She used to be home schooled and last Sept. her parents put her in school. J was so upset and still is but she is dealing with it since we do on occasion have play dates. They played games, ran around tickling each other, drew pictures and just had fun being giggly little girls. I love seeing them together.
I can't help but compare J who has never went to school with F who has been in school for 4 months now. From what her mom says its a good school and F really likes it. Both girls were pretty much on the same level as far as their education went while they were home schooled, and I was expecting to see that F had somehow grew and passed J with her knowledge, especially reading. I'm not sure why I thought this, probably my own insecurities. But come to find out that both girls are still pretty much where they were as far as reading ability goes. They both read some... not great, just some. I don't think this reflects on the school system, because F's mom tells me that they have F reading every night and do lots of reading instruction at school. I think it's the child and where their interests lie. F is not very interested in reading right now...
So J is right on track it seems as long as she is happy and growing and learning and asking questions about everything around her I am satisfied.

For home schooling we read the 21 balloons, did a few pages of math with J and word problems with F. F watched Life after people on dvr, read from the Food Lover's Companion, which is a 400 page book all about every type of food you can think of. It has a definition of what the food is, what is looks like, how to cook it and more. He discovered that he is very interested in it and read aloud from it at breakfast.

We are still waiting to hear back from some people regarding the apt. we saw on Tuesday. It is only about 30 blocks from our apt. here in Bklyn. so I am hoping....
