I took the kids to the SI museum yesterday. The boat ride from NYC to SI was so wonderful in the hot weather. As always we loved the museum, the price is great $2 for me and free for the kids, they have a large piece of a meteor that struck Arizona 50,000 years ago, various dinosaur fossils, lots of stuffed birds, various small animals preserved in alcohol for over 100 years, a nice display of the Lenape Indians who inhabited SI and NJ until the 1700's. I am always fascinated by the meteor that you can actual touch something from outer space...
Afterwards we took a walk, ate lunch and went to a thrift store that I used to go to when I was a teen growing up there. I couldn't believe it was still there :). J got a pretty hat for $2 that she now wears every day :).
On the boat ride home we sat outside o the very top level of the boat and looked at all the sail boats in the water, made pans to go to Governors' island soon and enjoyed the scenery. Once in the city we walked to Battery Park and the kids ran around in the water sprinklers/fountain that rose up and down with rhythm. Of course J got all soaking wet :)so we had to go across the park to the Starbucks to changed her clothes... I brought a change of clothes because I know my daughter :)
I was glad I did so she wouldn't freeze on the train ride home... it really was a wonderful day and I marvel all the time how we can spend days like this outside doing things we enjoy and learn at the same time. Gotta love home schooling!
Today was spent cleaning for J's b day party and taking her to the dentist because in the midst of cleaning her filling fell out... it seems that the previous dentist was HORRIBLE!!! and she messed up my baby's tooth.. so now it needs to come out.. the poor girl. So on Sunday it'll get taken out and hopefully it won't be too bad.
F and J did do some homeschooling today as well though, F did 2 pages in his Language arts book and J worked on her Phonics made easy computer software. She has been using that almost every day and loves it. :) Her reading has improved a lot the last month or so...
