We had a good Memorial day weekend, we watched a few tributes on TV about the soldiers who did not come home... I cried.....
Saturday the kids had a blast at my BFF's house in S.I. the all got to play with a lot of kids, F loved her Wii game system, we got to socialize and eat a lot of food. My mom was there too (I've known my bff for almost 20 years). Sunday we did errands and then relaxed at home, I cleaned some.
Yesterday I did an art project with the kids that I've been wanting to do for a while... I bought poster paper and had them lie down while I traced their upper body and then they colored it in as they wanted to.
J colored herself all purple and F colored himself brown (because his skin is light brown) A just colored all different colors...they loved it. I took Pics of course....then they played a lot. Me and F did about 45 minutes of math games on the comp. then we read Ancient Rome and discussed the book for a little before he went to bed. We decide (OK mostly F decided) that he wants to learn about the food and the eating habits of the people of all of the countries that we are learning/going to be learning about. I think it's great, he is sooo into the 'what's healthy and what's not' aspect of food. In September the home school group on Brooklyn will be starting a Foreign lands club type thing. We will pick a different country to study each month and the kids will do reports on their chosen topics and then we will eat food from that country that the moms will make before hand. F decided that he will do his report on the traditional food eaten in each country and I will be glad to help him, we are very much into food in this house as well. I love that my DH works at a restaurant/food production center and that F can visit him and learn his father's trade.
For the upcoming summer we will stick with the 3 countries that we have intermittently studied, Egypt, Rome and Spain. We will go shopping soon for food ingredients and cook up some good meals :) F is excited that he will be helping me cook.
It should be great fun :) I love home schooling.
