Song writing

We went to F's weekly song writing class today, and I'm so glad we signed him up. He is learning how to write songs, his spelling is not really where it should be and I noticed that he is already improving (in 2 classes) he has no choice but to write so he does it. The teacher involves music and plays the guitar for the kids so they are more apt to write things for her to play. I went with all 3 kids today, the girls stayed in the next room with me and played while F was in his class, then when it was over J got to draw pictures and play a little more with the train set that was set up in the room. I'm so glad that we can use this hs mom's room in her house. It is set up with tables and chairs, we will use the same space for the Around the world club on Friday. We were there for 3 hours, F played with her 4 boys, pool, ping pong and just basic horsing around with boys. J and A played games and drew with chalk in her backyard with her 3 yo dd E. F loves it there. It was such a nice day outside I wish it would last but I know in a matter of 1 month it'll start getting cooler than we'd like.
Yesterday F started writing his report for the Around the world club this Friday. He is doing it on the typical food that Peruvians eat. He really doesn't like to write but he did it. I was happy that he did it even thought he really didn't want to. He is very interested in doing the country study and he said he can't wait until we start cooking the food for the class, I have a nice vegetarian dish from Peru to bring. All the kids are involved when I cook, they love to help.
He has also been doing a few pages in his big math workbook every day. We decided that he will do math every day as well as some reading every day which he has no plm doing. He likes to read and have things be read to him. We will start reading Homer's the Odyssey soon, I have books 1 thru 3 and have to get 4 thru 6 once we get into it. It is written by an author that writes for children so it is not the same book that I read in college but a version made for my son which is great. We will also do a study on ancient Greece this year to go with the books.

J is learning to recognize her numbers from 1 to 10, painting with water colors a lot, drawing and just enjoying being hs'ed. When we were in PA one of the waitresses in the hotel's dining room asked how we were working school out because we were on a vacation during a school day. I said we were home schooling and she was like 'oh wow, that is better.' I loved it because A (who is 2) said 'I'm home schooled with my mommy.' She is so cute and she loves it that we all stay home together every day. She is learning the same things as her older sister because she is involved with everything we do together. It is so much better and so much more fun. I love being in charge of all of my kids and being able to decide what to do when.
