Today is the 1st day of the Chinese Lunar New Year.
We went to the Brooklyn Public Library to see a performance by the Chinese Theater company, they did the Monkey King, which is a famous story from China. It was a nice performance and the kids really enjoyed it. J came home and put some clay on her face (as makeup)and dressed up as the Monkey King and did some dances and pretended to be the Monkey King. I love that she picks things up and likes to imitate.
Before we left the house F and I read some more from the strange but true Civil War stories as well as the What was it like when...Civil war book. We also started a new week of math, this week we are doing measurements. F took his tape measure and measured various things around the house. He is learning more about converting inches into feet. He also did 2 pages in his big workbook on estimating and then actually measuring various objects.
We are doing very well in sticking with the math curriculum that I have set up. We do a different area of math every week starting on Wednesdays. So far we did perimeters (addition), area(multiplication), subtraction, and now measuring.
We should be finished with the Civil War within the next week or so and then we will move onto the Mexican-American War.
The kids have been dancing to the Cd's that we bought last week, F has been reading the book and the song lyrics and has a new favorite kid's song :).
