Zoo/ cemetery tour

Monday I took the kids to the PP zoo, we met one other HS mom and her 2 kids, C and E and had a really nice time looking around and learning about various animals. F and C are close friends so it was nice to see them hanging out :). Afterwards we sat outside the zoo on a grassy area of the park and the kids had a great time running around, playing tag, rolling on the grass, having a race.... A and E played together gathering flowers and running around, J played with F and C. We spent about 4 hours there and then walked to the big public library, it is a huge library and has a great children's room that F loved. They had hundreds of books on various countries in the world. Then my DH picked us up and we went to Ikea to buy a new couch :). Our was ripped and old so it was time for a new one. It was an exhausting day for all of us... by the time we got the couch home, threw out the old one, cleaned up and crashed it was midnight.

Tuesday all 3 kids had a workbook day, A and J practiced their letters and numbers, and F did a page on nouns and some math pages. J and A drew a lot of pictures. J has been drawing a lot lately and is getting better. She has dreams of becoming an artist :).

Today I took F to the Green-wood Cemetery for a tour that another HS'ing mom set up. My mom came and watched the girls so we could go just us 2. The girls love to be with grandma and they were very excited. It was great that she came and watched them because the tour was actually a lot of walking and not really for little kids.
It was a tour of the battle hill. The guide was fun, energetic and great with the children. He was a NYC teacher for 15 years and now runs the education dept. of the cemetery. There were about 20 kids there of all ages and all were well behaved and interested in what he had to show us. We walked around and listened as he showed us various tomb stones of famous ppl, mausoleums, stone sculptures and such things. We saw the monument erected for the Civil War soldiers, of Dewitt Clinton who was mayor, governor and senator of NY state at one point in time. He also was largely responsible for the construction of the Erie canal. We saw the mausoleum of Al Capone's mob boss during the 1920's, who got tired of it and became a respectable business man and died in Bklyn.
It was so interesting and F loved it. It was a long tour, it was supposed to be for only 1 hr and half but lasted for 2 and half hours. We learned so much, and came home and looked up some more info. We stayed after and F and a few other kids looked around at some more Civil war soldiers tomb stones, played around, talked and just had a really nice time hanging out. It was nice to meet new families and we made plans to get together again.
