Owls

I took F and his sisters to F's zoo class on Monday. The kids learned about owls, all about their characteristics, eating habits, feathers, the kind of bones they have, the kids got into groups of 3 and had to identify various owl as the teacher held up the picture. She gave them a book to look into and F was so happy they got all 5 owls right....then they got to dissect an owl pellet (throw up) F found some really cool shrew bones, and other rodent skeletons. The girls were sitting in the back but still got to listen in and see the owl pellets, they were grossed out by the pellets but loved the info. about owls. At the end the teacher brought out a corn snake and talked about the reason it's called a corn snake, they did not have any teaching owls to bring out so we had to settle for the owl's food to look at and touch. J and F touched the snake but A was not into getting slimy :).
We stayed at the zoo afterwards and walked around even though it was raining and kind of cold. After about an hour we left and walked to the library to borrow some books and wait for daddy to pick us up.

Sunday we met my mom at Central park for the Run for Parks race the girls had. Both girls got to run in their age groups and got medals for running. When it was over we walked over to the band shell and J danced away to the music they had playing, then walked around the park looking at the fountain(which was empty) perfect for running around inside in. The weather was so beautiful, the kids had a great time climbing rocks and picking flowers. We then decided to go to Staten Island, ate lunch at my moms and went to the beach to collect sea glass. We found at least 30 pieces, all different colors. F is now collecting them, some of them are so rare they are worth quite a bit of money. We have done some research on sea glass and there is a convention coming up in October in PA that we are thinking of going to.
