Upstate

Was supposed to blog abt our trip upstate last week... but.....
Well we took the 4 hour drive upstate NY to see my step daughters and our grandson.. don't think I'll completely get used to saying that.... anyways...
It was a nice trip and we always love the view, all the trees and we actually saw 4 deers by the side of the highway this time. The Hudson river drew some good conversation between me and F

We went to the oldest dd's house first, the kids had a great time seeing their nephew and jumping on the trampoline, chasing chickens and looking at the 2 pigs they have there. We are a family that doesn't eat meat, except for chicken.. so the kids were not happy that the pigs were kept for food... the kids ran around the huge yard, found some slugs.. which slimed J's hand so badly it took her about 15 minutes of washing and then some more rubbing to finally get the slime off.... no more slugs for her.. and she LOVES bugs and slimy things.... :)

We then drove about 30 minutes away and picked up my other step dd and then drove back into town to eat some pizza and go strawberry picking. This place was great.. they have blueberries, cherries, strawberries and apples for the pick your own seasons, so we spent a good hour picking strawberries and then sat in the car and ate home made ice cream. A. can't eat any dairy (except for cheese and yogurt... weird) but she is a great kid and she understood, but I still felt bad...

The day was so peaceful and beautiful, we didn't want to leave.. but after a trip to Walmart.. of course we had to go to Walmart... we headed for home. It took about 4 hours to get home, DH dropped us at home and got Chinese food.. very rare for us... and then all the kids took nice showers and went to bed close to 11 pm. It was a looong day...

We don't get to visit the step kids often... but this year we are going to go back hopefully soon.
