Friday

We were supposed to go to Jones Beach today for a class on the formation of Long Island, but of course the weather didn't want to cooperate. So we stayed home and I organized big time, we went to the library and got our free books and did some food shopping. We have so much 'school' papers from F's work though out this 1st year of home schooling it's unbelievable. That's not including what he does inside his work books....I threw out some stuff and organized the rest into piles of work that;s been finished and work that needs to be finished.
He wrote in his work book his observations on the bean plant we are growing again, watched a short video on recycling, what happens to your recyclables, reviewed the 13 colonies and the 5 major oceans.
Yesterday we had a good time when another home school mom and her son, who is F's friend came over from Queens. We hung here for a little bit then went to the park where we met another Home school mom and her 3 kids who live 2 blocks from us. The boys had a good time running all around the park, chasing each other, pretending to eat bugs etc. ect. I had a nice time talking to the moms. J made a new friend as well, another home schooled girl her age. Yay! The mom who lives close to us came back to the apt. after the park and the kids had a good time playing video games and drawing. It was a nice day.
This week we have been doing more reading about the Tundra and its inhabitants, as well as doing copy work about Ancient Egypt. Me and F played a few times with the math game I made up, it's a memory matching game about addition. I made 15 cards, each number twice, the point of the game is to add to 15, F likes it and it's a fun way for him to understand that 10+5 is the same as 5+10 etc.
F got his new DVD on Pompeii and has watched it twice already, it's very informative as well as cool with it's special effects. They discuss a lot about volcanoes, which he loves. We also did some more research on the Battle of Brooklyn during the Revolutionary War and we read a lot of interesting facts from various sites dedicated to this. I am planning to cover this topic more extensively during the next few months. Maybe I can plan a trip around some of the historical sites in Brooklyn...
F has been spending so much more time this week with his sisters, playing puzzles and telling them about states and their capitals, and trying to teach J some more letters. They love the attention and I love that he is trying to be patient with them.
