Happy Leap day!

It is Feb 29Th...leap day 2008 :)

We read a short story about leap day that explains why it is so....interesting how they figured all of this out, F is also staring off this week (Wednesday) with division, and to his surprise what I've been telling him all these months is true...it IS easy lol..... he knows his multiplications pretty well so 1 digit division is easy for him, he tried to do a few 2 digit ones as well. We are almost finished with his chapter book, and he has agreed to try and start reading the Magic Tree house books he has once we are done with Treasure Island.

I found a nice web site on the revolutionary war for children, Liberty's kids.com and he spent about an hour on that yesterday doing crossword puzzles, answering riddles written by Ben Franklin and watching short clips about how things were different back in the 1770's as opposed to now, toothpaste was made of crushed bricks....nice...... he didn't want to get off, he likes learning about history, especially American history.

J is learning the sounds of the alphabet and she really knows a lot of them, the vowels confuse her still though, I know she'll get it in time..no rush, she's only 4..... she can spell a few words and loves to write on her drawings, she is very creative about the things she draws. We sat down and looked at some web sites on sea animals the other day and she was really interested in the sea cucumber, the manatee (sea cow), and the star fish. So we read about their eating habits and labeled their body parts, then she went off and drew a really good manatee which looked very much like the one in the picture we looked at. I wonder if she'll be an artist :) the possibilities are endless for her she likes to do so many things and is good at it.

The weather has been so cold the last few days that we have been staying at home and just playing, reading, J has been reading her Leap pad books again, doing school work, and I've been cleaning.
The girls played farmer and farm animal yesterday with their huge box they have here for just such a thing...A was a sheep and J was the farmer who had to feed and take care of her...soo cute :)

I love being at home with them
