Well it is official, my J is a big girl. She has lost her first tooth. It has been loose for a few weeks now and it finally popped out last night in the middle of dinner. She was so excited and wanted to go to sleep right after so the tooth fairy could come :). Of course she didn't fall asleep until after story time at 10 pm... and the tooth fairy did indeed come last night and gave her 2 quarters. Hmm maybe she is real..
F had a class yesterday at the Old stone house which we missed because of an apt I had at the Wic office... it was too cold outside the kids didn't want to go out anyway so we missed out... oh well there's always Spring....
F is now doing school work daily because we have not covered as much material as I'd have liked to this quarter.
He is doing all types of math daily and reading in his book, we started The Red Badge of Courage a few weeks ago. He likes the Civil War theme. yesterday F and J helped their father replant one of our plants into a bigger pot, he likes doing that stuff and he is good at teaching the kids about plants and how to take care of all things green.
We put J's bird house that she made at the Home Depot a few months ago, outside on the window sill. The first 2 or 3 days there were no birds eating the sunflower seeds that we put inside, but then we opened the window shades the 4Th day and noticed that all o the seeds were gone. The kids were so excited, so I put out more and within 10 minutes had 3 or 4 birds coming and taking the seeds. All in all that day we put out seeds 3 times and by the end of the day they were all gone.
We saw house sparrows, European Starlings, Red Cardinals, and one other bird that we think was another type of sparrow. the kids looked it up in the bird book but we weren't sure... It is so nice to have the little nature that we have right outside our window. We also identified a sort of makeshift nest on the ground that the birds seem to be using as their winter home. Our snails are also doing OK, and are enjoying the various greens we are supplying them with. Some of our original 10 snails have passed on though, we are not sure why. But are taking no chances with our remaining 4 or 5 and feeding them much more than they can eat :).
I am thinking of getting another pet.. maybe a lizard.. we shall see.
J is doing well with learning her numbers and reading some simple words. He, It, We etc...
She is enjoying the number recognition games that I made up.. I wrote 1 to 15 on a piece of stock paper twice and we play a matching game with it. She learns her number recognition but it is not learning for her it is a fun game :) The girls like games so this fits in with 'teaching' them and playing at the same time.
F is now learning abt WW2, he is reading about it, looking at maps of Europe from that period, and watching a DVD from netflix on various battles from that war.
