It seems like there is no end to this cold. We are supposed to have more cold/snow in a few days..I hope we can make it to the library on Wed.
We bought F a big world map for his wall as well as a book on all of the presidents, I love that I can get a 20% discount just 'cuz we home school. He is really interested in his countries and now he can see where they are located. He also got his extinct animals encyclopedia that he reads daily. He is really getting better at double/triple digit addition and subtraction. That is the only math we have done for about a week now. The focus on only one aspect of math for a longer period of time has really helped him pick it up faster. On Saturday we went with F and A to a Chinese New Year celebration activity at the Brooklyn Children's Museum. They got to listen to a story and then make a Chinese lantern out of Chinese paper money holders and learn a little about the culture. Also A got to play in the newly opened totally tots center, while F did another activity. It was nice and well planned. They had a good time, I can't wait till they finish the expansion. It is supposed to be really nice with more space and a lot more activities planned.
J got to spend all day with her grandma while we were at the Museum, she needed the one on one attention. It was good for her, she loves her grandma :).
We are going to be focusing more on black history for the next few weeks, as well as for the rest of the year. As well as on Puerto Rican History. We have a lot to learn.

Neat Blog:) DD 5 is also doing triple digit addition and subtraction with carrying! It's a pretty simple leap from single to double and then to triple. The regrouping part is what most kids have trouble with. I found she got much better at it when she started making change for bills. We are also doing timed tests for facts. It's interesting how children can know how to do a much harder skill, but still aren't very fast at it! We're doing geometry next, b/c she already knows how to mult/divide and just needs work on the quick recall of facts there. She had to learn it for certain board games:) ( smath and presto change-o)
Good luck!
Wow! He can *read* that encyclopedia?
Here's a direct quote from that:
" More than 500 kinds of trilobites lived in Ordovician seas..."
...or does he look at the pictures?;)
Either way, it's a neat book!
