Transit Museum

We have been pretty busy this week... F has been more open to doing more math, he did a 1st grade placement test through Singapore math.com. He got a good portion of them correct, which I was happy about. We have also been working on his times tables, so far he is a little confused with division, but we will work at it. I'm not rushing anything. Me and F played the Professor Noggins game The First People of North America, and we tied the game:15 to 15 (the first time we played).
F got a learn and play Spanish book with a CD and has been trying to read it while he listens to the CD, it says the activities/stories all in Spanish while the book has both Spanish and English in it. He is getting better at learning Spanish. I ordered a multi language CD of songs that we are waiting for. Me and him have to sit down together and work on reading the book in both languages. We also read a book on the subways, A Subway for New York which was very informative, and entertaining. F really liked it, and it was a good segue into the transit museum trip that I arranged with the hs group on Friday. All of my good mom friends as well as their kids who F really likes showed up. We had a great time learning about the first subways in NYC, learning a little about the people who built them, mostly immigrants. The kids were fascinated about the wages and how much things cost in the 1900's. F came home and wanted to figure out how much someone back in that time made in a week, a month and how much we make now. We had a nice lesson about managing your money, and the importance of saving it. F got to play around at the end of the tour with his friends, they pretended to be bus drivers and filled up mta buses with different types of fuel. It was very educational. On Saturday we went to the Queens Zoo, and all three kids had a good time. They got to see a puppet show at the discovery center, and a lot of their favorite animals. J loves to pretend that she is a lot of different animals. They got to see parrots up close when the parrots came down to eye level with the kids on the railing to the bridge we were on. It was really cool, they got to feed them.
It was such a beautiful day, when we were done whit the zoo we got ice cream and walked in the park a little bit.
J has been learning really well this week also, she now knows all the letters in her name and can write them clearly :, she loves to read and is getting a pretty big collection of books, thanks to the library's RIF program. She has started to read her books on her own, making up the story as she goes along. It's great to see, A has also been doing the same. I love to see that all three of my kids like to read and draw and imagine.
